Gurgaon: A dramatic scene unfolded outside the police commissioner’s office on Thursday after a woman allegedly tried to set herself on fire, prompting intervention by police personnel who snatched a bottle containing petrol from her.The incident took place at the main gate of the office and was captured on video by the woman’s friend. In the footage, the woman is seen approaching the gate and speaking to a police officer posted there. Moments later, an argument broke out, following which the officer noticed the bottle in her hand and quickly took it away to prevent any untoward incident. The woman is then seen breaking down at the gate before leaving the premises.Police, however, denied that any such attempt took place and said that the situation was under control. They said the woman earlier signed an affidavit indicating a mutual settlement in a rape case and her intent not to pursue further action. The affidavit was signed and attested on April 25.The incident follows a complaint filed in Jan by a woman against a man from Panipat, in which she accused him of having physical relations with her since 2024 under the false promise of marriage.
A case was registered in connection with the matter at the women’s police station in Sector 51.In a video shared on social media, the woman alleged that the accused was not arrested for months and that her family was facing continuous pressure and threats from the accused. “It’s been four months, but the accused has not been arrested. They are pressuring and threatening my family. I have no option left except to die. I will end my life in front of the commissioner’s office,” she said in the video.Police said multiple teams, including the crime branch, have been deployed to investigate the matter and take further action based on the findings of the case registered at the women’s police station.
