Iran on Tuesday accused the United States of violating the fragile ceasefire in the past 48 hours and warned it will respond to any further escalation, as tensions continue despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war.

The foreign ministry said that US forces carried out what it described as “gross violations" of the truce in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province. It did not provide specific details of the alleged incidents.

“The US terrorist army, continuing its illegal and unjustified actions since the ceasefire… has, in the past 48 hours, committed a gross violation of the ceasefire in the Hormozgan region," the ministry said in a statement.

It added that Tehran “will not leave any aggression unanswered and will not retreat one step in defending its territory."

On Monday, the US Central Command had said that its forces had struck missile sites in southern Iran and targeted boats it claimed were attempting to lay mines in the Gulf. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, however, said they had fired at US aircraft that tried to enter Iranian airspace.
