Cuttack: Work has started on the long-awaited road project connecting Link Road and Ring Road near Khannagar, and once completed, it is expected to significantly decongest key junctions like Press Chowk, Madhupatna and Khannagar. The project, sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore, is being executed by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) with a completion target of two months. The project, initially planned in 2018, will also provide an alternate corridor for commuters and emergency vehicles, easing the load on NH-16 and inner-city routes. The 1km reinforced cement concrete road will run from Khannagar Pump House near Kathajodi river to Santosh Petrol Pump on Link Road.“This project has been a long-standing demand of the people of Cuttack. After clearance from railway authorities, we have now started construction. An estimated budget of Rs 1.5 crore has been allotted for this project, and we have set a two-month deadline to finish the work,” mayor Subash Singh said.“Once completed, it will bring tremendous relief from congestion, especially during peak hours. The CMC is committed to strengthening urban infrastructure, and this road will play a crucial role in traffic management,” he added.
Locals and commuters welcomed the move, saying the alternate route will help reduce travel time and streamline vehicle movement between major residential and commercial pockets. “We’ve been waiting for this road for years. Every day, we face traffic snarls at Press Chowk and Madhupatna. This new road will be a huge relief for thousands of commuters like us,” said Ranjit Sahoo, a resident of Khannagar.
