Urging the immediate registration of eligible applicants under the Construction Workers’ Welfare Board and the scrapping of the existing online-only registration system a demonstration organised by the All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) and the Karaikal Construction Workers’ Welfare Association was held near the new bus stand on Saturday.

The protesters demanded immediate disbursal of all pending benefits to registered welfare board members. They called for a ₹10,000 Deepavali bonus and ₹7,500 in monsoon relief for construction workers. Additional demands included expanding the 100-day employment scheme to 200 days and raising the daily wage to ₹600, ensuring full employment for all eligible labourers.
