Jannik Sinner is on the brink of reclaiming the World No. 1 ranking after storming into his maiden Rolex Paris Masters final with a ruthless 6-0, 6-1 demolition of defending champion Alexander Zverev on Saturday.

The Italian was in no mood to waste time, dismantling a physically hampered Zverev in just over an hour with 23 winners and total control from start to finish.

It was Sinner’s fifth win in nine career meetings with the German, but more importantly, it’s brought him within touching distance of the top of men’s tennis.

Sinner Hunting Alcaraz’s Crown

Sinner, currently 100 points behind Carlos Alcaraz in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, will leapfrog the Spaniard to reclaim the World No. 1 spot if he lifts the Paris title on Sunday. Alcaraz’s early first-round exit opened the door, and the 23-year-old has seized the opportunity with trademark composure and precision.

“I’m happy to be in the final, but it’s not how you want to arrive," Sinner said modestly. “Sascha wasn’t 100 percent, but he’s had an incredible few weeks. I just hope he’s fit for Turin."

Sinner has reached the final in nine of the 11 tournaments in which he has competed in this year, including victories at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. It marks the second consecutive year he has reached nine finals, and he has now tied Alcaraz for the most Top-10 wins in 2025 (13).

The Task Ahead For Sinner

The Paris final will see Sinner face Felix Auger-Aliassime, with their Lexus ATP Head2Head finely poised at 2-2. Sinner won their last two meetings — in Cincinnati and the US Open — while the Canadian triumphed in 2022 in Madrid and Cincinnati.

A title on Sunday would mark Sinner’s fifth of the season and 23rd overall, capping another stellar year in which he’s reached nine finals in 11 tournaments: second only to Alcaraz’s 10.
