WPL Retentions: Full list of players retained by all 5 teams ahead of 2026 auction

Here’s the full list of retentions by all five WPL teams:

Mumbai Indians

The reigning champions, Mumbai Indians, decided to retain five players ahead of the mega auction – Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews, Amanjot Kaur and G Kamalini. With five retentions already sealed, the franchise won’t have the option of exercising the Right to Match (RTM) cards at the auction.

The two-time WPL winners will be coached by former Australian batter Lisa Keightley, who replaced Charlotte Edwards as the head coach after she took over as England’s new coach earlier this year.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

2024 WPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) decided to retain four players ahead of the mega auctions. Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh and Shreyanka Patil were the four players retained by the franchise. As a result, they will have one Right to Match option at the auction.

RCB will also enter the mega auction with a new head coach, with Malolan Rangarajan taking over from Luke Williams for the next cycle. The Australian, who coached RCB to victory in the second season, could not continue owing to his WBBL commitments.

Delhi Capitals

The three-time runners-up opted to retain five players ahead of the mega auctions. Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma and Niki Prasad were the Indian retentions, while Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp were the overseas retentions.

It means that DC will either have a new captain from one of the retentions or look to get incumbent skipper Lanning back at a lower price at the auctions.

UP Warriorz

The UP Warriorz, who will be coached by Abhishek Nayar next season, decided to go with a near blank slate by deciding to retain only top-order batter Shweta Sehrawat. The right-hander played 23 matches for the franchise, where she made 261 runs at an average of 13.73.

The franchise had some outstanding overseas players featuring over the last three seasons, including the likes of Sophie Ecclestone, Tahlia McGrath, and Healy. They also had the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup Player of the tournament – Deepti Sharma – but have not opted to retain any of them.

The solitary retention means that the Warriorz will go into the auction with four RTM cards, which they could use to get back any one of their experienced Indian or international players.

Gujarat Giants

The Gujarat Giants decided to retain two Australian players – Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney – ahead of the mega auctions. After enduring two tough seasons, the Giants made their maiden Playoffs in WPL 2025, where they lost in the eliminator to the Mumbai Indians.

They will look to build an improved squad, with the best possible mix of Indian and international players who would help the franchise become more consistent in the coming seasons.
