Wrexham A.F.C. are once again heading towards a dramatic end to their season, with a potential place in the Premier League now within touching distance. The club’s remarkable rise has captured global attention, driven in part by the influence of co-owner Ryan Reynolds and the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham.

“I think a defibrillator is the traditional fifth-season gift? Would make sense for this show," Reynolds wrote on X, reflecting the tension surrounding the club’s latest challenge.

How Can Wrexham Win Promotion To Premier League?

Heading into the final round of the EFL Championship season, Wrexham sit sixth, occupying the last playoff spot. The top two teams earn automatic promotion, while those finishing third to sixth compete in the playoffs for the final place in the Premier League. With one match remaining, Wrexham are locked in a three-way battle with Hull City A.F.C. and Derby County F.C. for that crucial position.

Their final fixture, however, is far from straightforward. Wrexham face Middlesbrough F.C., who are themselves chasing a top-two finish. Meanwhile, Hull take on Norwich City F.C., and Derby meet Sheffield United F.C., adding further intrigue to the promotion race.

Regardless of the outcome, Wrexham have already secured their highest-ever finish in the second tier, surpassing their previous best from the 1978-79 campaign. Still, the possibility of a fourth consecutive promotion remains alive — an achievement that would defy expectations.

Director Shaun Harvey underlined the magnitude of the moment. “If we do make it to the playoffs on Saturday afternoon, we have the chance of going back-to-back-to-back-to-back promotions," he said.

“If we achieve that, as others have said and I agree, it would be the greatest sports story ever.

“There’s no script, just a story to tell.

“As it happens, it’s authentic and that’s what makes Wrexham so relatable to many others who care to dream."

With so much at stake, Wrexham’s fairytale journey could yet reach another extraordinary chapter.
