Randy Orton brutally attacks Cody Rhodes ahead of WrestleMania 42 match, Hall of Famers return, and more

WWE Friday Night SmackDown brought its March 13 episode from the Mortgage Matchup Centre in Phoenix, Arizona. The show featured yet another exciting buildup on the road to WrestleMania 42.

The night saw huge shockers from Randy Orton's sinister heel turn, to Drew McIntyre quitting WWE, only to re-emerge later that night. Apart from that, the show also featured two Hall of Famers returning and some highly exciting matches take place on SmackDown this week.

Randy Orton attacks Cody Rhodes after WrestleMania 42 match contract signing

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton met in the ring to sign the contract for their WrestleMania 42 title match. Rhodes began by speaking about his history with Orton and becoming a megastar like him.

The Viper got out of his chair and said that he needed to win the title. Rhodes promised to give him his best version. Right after, Orton attacked him. He then tossed him out of the ring and hit him with the steel steps, leading to Rhodes bleeding out.

WWE officials and Jelly Roll came to stop him, but he shoved Jelly as well. Orton seemingly left but came back with a chair to strike Rhodes, whose head was on the steel steps. He then sat in the ring with the Undisputed WWE title to end the show.

Hall of Famers Bella Twins return on WWE SmackDown

This week on SmackDown, the fans saw the return of Nikki and Brie Bella to the blue brand. This was their first appearance together since Brie returned to WWE at the 2026 Royal Rumble event. The duo interfered in the WWE Women's Tag Team title match between Nia Jax & Lash Legend and Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss, and even got beaten down. However, they are now set to challenge Jax and Legend for the titles next week on SmackDown.

What were the other major highlights of WWE SmackDown this week?

WWE SmackDown featured the return of Jelly Roll, who was a guest on MizTV and got into an altercation with Kit Wilson. Apart from that, Drew McIntyre quit WWE at the start of the show only to return and attack Jacob Fatu in his match against Trick Williams, who had cost him his Undisputed WWE title last week. The show also featured top matches that saw Tiffany Stratton defeat Kiana James, Uncle Howdy and Erick Rowan beat Solo Sikoa and Talla Tonga, and R-Truth and Damian Priest picking up a win over Los Garza. Also read: WWE SmackDown Results & Highlights 13-march-2026: The Bella Twins return, Drew McIntyre quits, WrestleMania 42 match contract signing, and more
