Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Goa for the entire week, forecasting persistent spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places on July 7 and 8, while isolated places in both districts could experience heavy to very heavy showers on July 9.
The wet spell is expected to persist with heavy rainfall at isolated places from July 10-12 as well.In addition to the rainfall warning, the IMD has forecast strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, across the state from July 6-9.
A coastal warning has also been issued for fishermen and port operations. The forecast warns of squally weather with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, likely to prevail along and off the South Maharashtra-Goa coast up to 75km from the coastline till July 9.
Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea during this period.The IMD has also issued a port warning, lowering Local Cautionary Signal Number III (LC-III) for all ports along the South Maharashtra-Goa coastline, from Bankot to Mormugao.So far this monsoon season, Goa has received a total of 46 inches of rainfall. Dharbandora recorded the highest seasonal total with 1,786mm rain, while Mormugao received the lowest with 740.1 mm so far.
