Mumbai: Former Railways and Karnataka batter Yere Goud has been named as the head coach of the Indian Under-19 team for their upcoming tour of Australia, TOI has learnt. The India Under-19 team will depart for Australia tour on Sept 16 and return on Oct 10.
The India U-19 side will play three One-Day games (starting from Sept 21) and two multi-day matches (starting from Sept 30) against Australia's Under-19 team during the tour.

Ex-India pacer Debashish Mohanty, who was also a national selector, will be the fast bowling coach of the team, which will be captained by Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings opener Ayush Mhatre. Subhadeep Bhattacharya is the fielding coach of the side, while Rajib Datta is the spin bowling coach.This is the first time that Goud and Mohanty,a member of India's 1999 World Cup team, have been associated as coaches with the India Under-19 team.Mohanty, who has featured in two Tests and 45 ODIs (in which he took 57 wickets @29.15), has coached several domestic teams - including his home state Odisha - before he took over as the national junior selector and subsequently made it to the senior selection panel. In the 2024-25 season, he was the head coach of Nagaland.
Goud was the head coach of Karnataka in the 2024-25 domestic season, and was in the same role for four years in a previous stint too. He coached the Karnataka Under-23 side to their maiden Col CK Nayudu Trophy in the 2023-24 season.In a career stretching from 1994-95 to 2011, the 52-year-old, who was a teammate of India players Sanjay Bangar and Murali Kartik, played 134 matches and scored 7650 runs, with 16 hundreds and 39 fifties, at an average of 45.53.
