As Ayodhya prepares to celebrate Diwali to mark Lord Ram’s homecoming, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on Akhilesh Yadav’s party, saying the Samajwadi Party had kept the city in darkness for years.

Taking a dig at the Samajwadi party and the INDIA bloc at large, Adityanath said those who had “fired bullets” at karsevaks participating in the Ram Mandir movement never showed up at the grand opening ceremony of the Ram Temple in 2024.

"Those who fired bullets never came for the consecration of the Ram Temple. During the Ram Mandir movement, advocates were positioned to prevent the temple from being built. They fired shots, while we lit lamps," said Adityanath, who is in the city to celebrate Deepostav.

Adityanath was referring to then-Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh’s father, for ordering police to open fire on karsevaks marching toward the Babri Masjid - the site where the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple now stands - in 1990.

"Every lamp reminds us that truth can be troubled but cannot be defeated. It is the destiny of truth to be victorious, and with that destiny of victory, Sanatana Dharma has continuously struggled for 500 years. As a result of those struggles, a grand and divine temple has been constructed in Ayodhya," he added.
