Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday strongly condemned derogatory remarks made against Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s daughter, saying that no insult directed at any daughter should ever be tolerated.
CM Yogi said he immediately directed police to register an FIR as soon as the matter came to his notice, while addressing a public gathering in Azamgarh after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for 39 development projects worth over Rs 955 crore.
“A few days ago, some individuals made inappropriate comments against the daughter of Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav. No insulting remark against any daughter should ever be accepted. Every daughter deserves respect," the Chief Minister said.
While condemning the remarks, Yogi also took a swipe at the Samajwadi Party, urging Akhilesh Yadav to advise his supporters to exercise restraint in their language.
“The way people associated with him make comments about daughters, sisters, elders, deceased persons and senior leaders reflects the need to instil better values among them. If he cannot explain it to them, hand them over to us and we will explain it to them," he remarked.
Rs 955-Crore Development Push For Azamgarh
During his visit, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 39 development projects worth more than Rs 955 crore. He also announced that a grand equestrian statue of Maharaja Suheldev would be installed at Maharaja Suheldev University and directed officials to prepare a plan to convert the old district jail into a convention centre.
Highlighting Azamgarh’s transformation, Yogi said the district had struggled for recognition before 2017 despite its rich cultural, literary and historical legacy.
“Before 2017, Azamgarh had no university, no Purvanchal Expressway and even the airport was not functioning properly. Today, it has become better connected and is witnessing rapid development," he said.
BJP vs SP Over Development
The Chief Minister contrasted the current government’s development initiatives with previous administrations, alleging that earlier governments had failed to provide infrastructure, employment opportunities and welfare schemes.
He claimed that artisans associated with Mubarakpur’s famous sarees and black pottery industries had benefited significantly under the BJP government’s One District One Product (ODOP) scheme.
According to Yogi, the district now enjoys improved connectivity through the Purvanchal Expressway, upgraded road networks and airport infrastructure, enabling faster travel to Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Prayagraj.
Maharaja Suheldev, Ram Mandir And Political Messaging
A significant portion of Yogi’s speech focused on Maharaja Suheldev, whom he described as a national hero who repelled foreign invaders.
The Chief Minister said no foreign invader should be glorified and reiterated the government’s efforts to honour Maharaja Suheldev through memorials and institutions. He announced that the university in Azamgarh named after Suheldev would also get a grand equestrian statue.
Yogi also linked the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya to the BJP’s governance record, claiming that previous governments, including the Congress and Samajwadi Party, had failed to resolve the issue.
Law And Order Warning
Reiterating his government’s focus on law and order, Yogi warned that those who illegally occupy land, threaten the safety of women or extort traders would face strict action.
“If anyone grabs the land of the poor, compromises the safety of daughters or harasses traders, the government cannot guarantee the safety of such offenders," he said.
The Chief Minister concluded by urging people to support the BJP’s “double-engine government" model and promised continued efforts to make Azamgarh safer, more prosperous and better connected.
Several senior BJP leaders, ministers and local representatives, including Bhojpuri actor and former MP Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’, were present at the event.
