Yogi Govt Forms SIT To Probe 'Missing Donation' Allegations After Ram Temple Trust's Request

The SIT team has been directed to submit a preliminary report within seven days and a final report within 15 days.

The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations surrounding the alleged disappearance of donations made at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The SIT was formed following a request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which had urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to order an independent investigation to establish the facts and counter what it described as misinformation regarding the issue.

According to government sources, the panel comprises Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, IAS; Inspector General Kiran S, IPS; and Special Secretary (Finance) Neel Ratan. The committee has been directed to submit a preliminary report within seven days and a final report within 15 days.

The move comes amid a political storm triggered by allegations from Samajwadi Party leaders that crores of rupees donated by devotees at the Ram Temple had gone missing. Former SP MLA Pawan Pandey claimed that between Rs 5 crore and Rs 7.5 crore had been stolen from temple donation boxes, while Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav called for an independent inquiry into the matter.

The Trust has strongly denied any financial irregularities. Responding to the allegations earlier, Trust General Secretary Champat Rai said, “The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra undergoes internal audits from time to time. Representatives of the trust and the State Bank of India are involved in this exercise. The audit process lasts for several days. The same work is being carried out these days. Nothing noteworthy has come to light yet."

The trust maintains that donations are counted and audited under a structured system involving bank officials, trust representatives and CCTV surveillance. The SIT probe is expected to examine the allegations and submit its findings within the stipulated timeframe.
