A purported audio clip allegedly featuring Trinamool Congress supremo and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee confronting and rebuking the CEO of Kolkata’s Belle Vue Hospital has sparked a political controversy. The clip emerged a day after her nephew and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee was attacked by a mob in Sonarpur and taken to the private hospital for medical treatment.

In the purported viral audio clip, Mamata Banerjee is allegedly heard sharply confronting Belle Vue Hospital CEO Pradip Tandon, accusing him of misleading her and warning that he would be held accountable for his actions.

“Don’t come with us, you misled us. Everybody will remember. Don’t want to see your face. This arrogance, you, BJP. .(audio unclear). Are you running a hospital? You are arrogant."

She further alleged that Tandon was facing pressure and threats following the attack on Abhishek Banerjee.

Speaking to reporters, Banerjee said, “When I was sitting with Mr Tandon, the administrator of the hospital, he was requesting me because he was allegedly receiving threat calls from the police from different quarters. At that time, he was speaking to the DC South. BJP leaders were also allegedly threatening him that despite doctors advising admission, they should not admit Abhishek Banerjee because that was the government’s desire."

She further claimed that doctors at the hospital were under pressure.

“The doctors personally feel sorry and are saddened because they are being pressured. With saline support and after consultation with our family doctors, we have sent him home. The family doctor will now arrange treatment at home because I do not know what is happening in West Bengal," she said.
