West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has demanded the Election Commission of India (ECI) to halt the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across different states, calling it a “Super Emergency".
Speaking at a press conference, Mamata Banerjee accused the ECI of keeping election officials busy so that the government is unable to function properly for the next three months, and said a stay should be imposed on the exercise.
“This is a deliberate attempt to malign people! So many people have died, not a single condolence message by the Election Commission," she said. “You can cut my throat but don’t cut the name of a single genuine voter."
