Rahul Gandhi praises Priyanka in Lok Sabha for making Amit Shah smile during womens quota debate, highlights pride as brother and stresses central role of women in national life

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are seen.
The debate on the Women’s Quota Bill in Lok Sabha took a warmer turn when Rahul Gandhi paused to praise his sister. Watching Priyanka Gandhi Vadra speak in Parliament the previous day, he said, he had witnessed something he had never managed himself: making Amit Shah smile.
“Yesterday I was watching my sister achieve something in five minutes that I have not been able to do in maybe 20 years of my political career- which was to make Amit Shah smile," Rahul Gandhi told the Lok Sabha.
He added, “It is something that I also need to practice and learn. I was feeling very proud as an elder brother."

The moment he was referring to came during Priyanka Gandhi’s intervention in a debate on bills linked to the women’s quota law and the constitution of a delimitation commission. Addressing the House, she had turned her gaze toward Home Minister Amit Shah mid-speech.

“Grahmantri ji has rahe hain. Poori yojana bana rakhi hai- Chanakya agar jinda hote toh woh bhi chauk jaate aapki rajnitik kutilta par," she said- roughly: “The Home Minister is laughing. The whole plan is made. If Chanakya were alive today, even he would be surprised by your political shrewdness."
She pressed the point home with a wry follow-up, “He made the whole plan and he is laughing now. He agrees with me."
Amit Shah appeared genuinely amused and did not take offense, drawing smiles across the chamber. It was that reaction that Rahul Gandhi chose to spotlight when he rose to speak in the Lok Sabha.
Before the brotherly aside, Rahul Gandhi had opened the discussion on a more solemn note, speaking about the foundational role of women in public and national life.
“Women are a central force, a driving force in our national imagination, in our national perspective. All of us- every single one in this room- has been influenced, taught, and learnt a great deal from women in their lives," he said.
