Newcastle United, who travel to Manchester to take on Ruben Amorim’s United at the Theatre of Dreams, will look to continue their strong showings against the Red Devils in recent times as the Toon Army looks to add to their five wins out of the last six encounters against United.

Newcastle boss, Eddie Howe, however, added that their previous encounters and their results would count for little and urged the Magpies to be on their toes if they hope to continue their record against United.

Since the last time Newcastle went down to United, in the Final of the EFL League Cup in 2022, the toons have managed four wins in five meetings.

“That was a painful moment, but I think you just go against every opponent in an honest way. My process is to see the strengths and weaknesses of the team that we’re playing against.

“You don’t particularly look at the name or who you’re playing as such, you just attack the game, then try to highlight those weaknesses and try to protect yours, so it doesn’t really change, the process is the same."

“Our record has been good against Manchester United in recent games, but that counts for nothing in this game.

“It will be another independent game and as I say, they’ve improved, they’ve been really strong in the games –- even the game at Aston Villa, where they didn’t win in their last match, I thought they were really strong and produced a good performance."

United have as many as eight players unavailable. This includes Casemiro, who has been suspended, and Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, and Matthijs De Ligt, who are out due to injury. Additionally, Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo, and Bryan Mbeumo are on international duty at the AFCON.

United stand seventh in the league with 26 points from 17 games this season, while Newcaslte, who have 23 points under their belt stand 11th ahead of the game at OT.
