'You F*** Immigrant': Canadian Men Hurl Racial Slurs At Indian Couple, Use Obscene Gestures

An Indian couple in Peterborough, Ontario were harassed by a group of Canadian men, who hurled racial slurs at them at a mall parking lot and used obscene gestures.

A shocking video went viral on social media showing a Canadian man and his friends harassing an Indian couple in Peterborough, Ontario and hurling racial slurs at them when confronted about it.

The incident happened in a mall parking lot, when the Indian man confronted the Canadians for damaging his vehicle. The men could be heard shouting racial slurs and calling the man “big nose" and “you f***ing immigrant". One of the men even threatened to kill the man, saying, “Do you want me to get out of the car and f***ing kill you?"

“Hey big nose, you know it’s not illegal to go in front of your vehicle and h*** you. Did I touch you? Did I touch you, yes or no? Answer my question, you f***ing Indian," one of the men was heard saying.

One of the men stepped out the vehicle and humped the Indian couple’s car while shouting insults. The man tried to record their license plate and was heard instructing someone to call the police.

The video quickly went viral, drawing condemnation and calls for accountability. “My partner and I are still traumatised and I am posting so that it does not happen to someone else, and we want justice," the victim wrote online.

One Arrested After Outrage

“Sadly, incidents like these show that hatred toward Indians is on the rise in some parts of Canada. It’s a harsh reality many face, and ignoring it won’t make the problem disappear. Time for authorities to step up and protect every community equally no excuses," a user wrote online.

Police later arrested an 18-year-old from the City of Kawartha Lakes, charging him with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 16.

Peterborough Police confirmed that they launched an investigation on August 8 after reviewing the viral videos, which featured “hate-based language." Police Chief Stuart Betts said, “Anybody who has seen the video in this case will understand that that type of behaviour is not acceptable in our community, nor any community."

“Clearly this is not the standard of acceptable behaviour in our city. We encourage residents to continue to report hate bias incidents/crimes that take place in our community. Reporting these incidents to police is crucial to ensuring we have the information needed to investigate and pursue charges when appropriate," Mills added.

A report by The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) – a UK-based think tank – recently revealed that the use of hate-filled slurs directed mainly against Indian-origin people rose by 1,350% between 2019 and 2023.
