How Donald Trump's defense of Jaxson Dart turned a Giants QB into a hot-selling phenomenon

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced President Donald Trump at a May 22 rally in New York for Representative Mike Lawler, setting off a chain of events that has consumed the Giants' entire offseason practice period.

Teammate Abdul Carter posted a now-deleted reaction on X, the team held a private meeting, and Dart addressed reporters Friday.

Then Trump entered the conversation himself, posting a full defense of the 23-year-old on Truth Social.

What did Donald Trump say in defense of Jaxson Dart?

Trump weighed in directly on the situation through Truth Social, offering strong support for the Giants quarterback while criticizing those who have challenged him since the rally.“Thank you Jaxson! It was great being with you,” Trump said. “I know you’re taking some heat from the Radical Left Lunatics who are jealous of you, me, and everyone who surrounds us but, l also know that your Jersey also went to Number One, and you’re making Millions of Dollars so, YOU ARE A WINNER – THEY ARE ALL LOSERS. I’ll see you in the White House!”

The president's comments arrived just one day after Dart publicly addressed the criticism for the first time.

Rather than engage in political debate, the 23-year-old stressed that his decision was rooted in respect for the office of the presidency.“Obviously this was a unique opportunity, being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States…The president position has always been a position I’ve well respected regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party and my intentions were just that.”Dart also pointed to his family's history of military and public service while explaining his decision. Throughout his remarks, he repeatedly emphasized respect, unity, and maintaining strong relationships inside the Giants locker room despite differing political views.

Can Jaxson Dart and the Giants move past the offseason distractions?

For New York, that question matters more than any social media debate. The Giants are attempting to rebound from a disappointing 4-13 season under new head coach John Harbaugh, who was brought in to establish a stronger culture and restore competitiveness.

Instead, the franchise has spent much of its OTA period dealing with headlines unrelated to football.Dart remains one of the team's biggest reasons for optimism. As a rookie, he threw for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only five interceptions while adding 487 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground. His 76.3 QB Impact Metric from PFSN ranked him 18th among NFL quarterbacks, reflecting the promise he showed in his first season.Still, production is ultimately what will determine how long this story lingers. Dart acknowledged that politics can be divisive but stressed that the Giants have maintained open dialogue behind closed doors.“I also understand in this world, politics can be a sensitive matter, a sensitive topic,” Dart said before adding that he values every teammate regardless of political or religious beliefs. He described the team's bond as a genuine brotherhood built on honest conversations and mutual respect.A private team meeting this week underscored how seriously the organization has treated the issue. Yet inside the building, the focus remains on football. If Dart delivers the second-year leap many expect, attention will likely shift back to his development as a quarterback. If the Giants struggle, however, this offseason controversy may continue to follow both him and the franchise.
