PUNE: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday told the newly elected BJP corporators to follow transparent practices and work hard to make PMC the best municipal corporation in the country. He said the corporators' high-handedness would not be tolerated.
"You should strive to resolve the issues of citizens and work honestly," Fadnavis told corporators in a meeting in a five-star hotel in the city. Most newly elected corporators of the party attended the meeting. Pune MP Muralidhar Mohol, state cabinet ministers, including Chandrakant Patil and Madhuri Misal, and MLAs from the city were also present.Fadnavis said there were speculations about BJP's gains, besides discussions that the Pune fight would be very tight for BJP.
Yet, the party recorded a thumping victory as people of the city put their weight behind BJP. The corporators should live up to the trust shown by people, the chief minister said.BJP retained Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) with 119 seats — 21 more than the tally in 2017 — out of 165. Fadnavis said a positive result in BJP's favour was the outcome of the efforts of the corporators and their workers. He appealed to the corporators to refrain from differences over various positions in the PMC, including the post of mayor and membership of various committees.
"People of Pune have once again expressed their preference for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's development agenda. This mandate of the people of Pune is certainly gratifying. This is a big responsibility and you should work in a way that you retain the trust of people. If the trust is lost, such a mandate will go away like a wave. We have to plan for the next five years' development work. It is our responsibility to fulfil the expectations of people," Fadnavis said.He said the municipal corporation was not a place for commission business. "No matter how big is someone, mismanagement will not be tolerated," he added.
