A panic situation prevailed at the Ernakulam General Hospital on Sunday (August 24) as a youth unleashed violence, allegedly vandalising properties worth ₹ 1.5 lakh. Alvin Benny, 26, a native of Thevara, was taken into custody by the Central police after the hospital security guards overpowered him. The police said a case was being registered against the youth following a complaint filed by the superintendent of the hospital.
It all started at noon as Alvin barged into the reception of the super-speciality wing and demanded ₹500. He turned violent as he did not get the money and vandalised properties such as computers, printers and a public address system. He was overpowered by the guards from near the MRI scan section and had to be sedated before handing him over to the police, hospital sources said.
