YouTube now allows users to disable the Shorts feed on mobile. By setting a '0 minutes' daily limit in time management settings, the Shorts tab and horizontal bar disappear from your home screen on both Android and iOS. While not a complete block, this feature significantly reduces casual Shorts consumption, offering a way to avoid the endless scroll.
YouTube has finally given users a way to turn off Shorts on mobile. The platform is rolling out a "0 minutes" option within its time management settings, which effectively removes the Shorts feed from your home screen on both Android and iOS.
Here’s how you can disable YouTube Shorts on Android and iOS
To turn it on, open the YouTube app, tap your profile icon, hit the gear icon for Settings, then go to Time Management > Daily Limits. Toggle on the Shorts feed limit and select zero minutes. That's it.Once set, tapping the Shorts tab will immediately trigger a "You've reached your Shorts feed limit" message. The horizontal Shorts bar also disappears from your home screen recommendations. You can still watch individual Shorts from channels you follow or links sent by friends—but the endless scroll? Gone.
What happens to YouTube Shorts after you set the limit to zero
There's a catch: this isn't a hard block. The Shorts tab still shows up in the app, and there's an "ignore limit" button if you change your mind. Shorts also continue appearing in your subscriptions feed. So YouTube isn't ripping them out entirely—it's just putting a wall between you and the rabbit hole. The feature was first introduced in October for general time limits, with a minimum of 15 minutes. In January, the zero-minute option quietly appeared for parents managing kids' accounts.
Now it's rolling out to everyone, though the rollout is gradual—but some have said found the option live on iOS while another couldn't find it on Android yet.
YouTube Shorts’ time limit doesn't work on desktopry, so try this instead
If you mainly watch YouTube on a laptop, you're out of luck for now—time management tools don't exist on desktop or TV apps. Your best bet there is a browser extensions, which can scrub the Shorts section from your feed entirely. The mobile feature is live now and expanding. Check your app settings to see if it's available yet.
