Noida police questioned YouTuber and social media influencer Ajeet Bharti for several hours on Tuesday over his comments about the Chief Justice of India (CJI) on social media. The questioning came a day after Bharti made provocative remarks in a video post on X about an incident in the Supreme Court on Monday where a lawyer attempted to attack Chief Justice BR Gavai by throwing a shoe at him.
In the video, Bharti allegedly taunted the Chief Justice and posted the clip with the caption: “Gavai is a lousy, undeserving judge, and he should face a contempt (of court) case.”
Several social media users demanded action against him following the YouTuber's comments on the incident, which has been condemned by many, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
On Tuesday, Bharti was first taken to the Sector 58 police station and later shifted to the ACP 2 office, where senior police officials carried out the questioning. Bharti was released at around 4.30 pm after the interrogation.
Speaking briefly outside the ACP office, he identified himself as a journalist and declined to comment further. Noida Police has not issued any official statement regarding the matter.
After leaving the police station, Ajeet Bharti, who has nearly 5 lakh followers on X, assured his followers that he was not arrested today and is safe.
"I am safe and sound. No arrest has happened, no custody. You all don't worry. This is a part of a journalist's life. The relentless thrashing of the leftists will continue," Bharti said in a post on X in hindi.
