Zoho's WhatsApp rival Arattai app gets end-to-end encryption, Sridhar Vembu shares screenshot to help users set it by default

Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu recently shared an online post, sharing a first look of the company’s messaging app Arattai’s new design. In the post, Vembu revealed that the app claimed to rival WhatsApp now supports end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for personal chats.

The feature aims to make conversations more secure and private for users. Vembu said that users can now choose to make E2EE the default mode on Arattai for all personal chats. He also shared a screenshot showing how users can switch between regular and encrypted modes within the app.

In the post, Vembu also sought feedback from users on how encryption should be applied across the platform. He outlined two options:Option 1: Users can decide whether to make E2EE the default for all their one-on-one chats or activate it only for specific conversations. If one participant in a chat chooses E2EE, the conversation will automatically switch to the encrypted mode.Option 2: Make E2EE the system-wide default for all one-on-one chats, meaning encryption would be the only available mode. Here’s what Sridhar Vembu wroteBelow is how the Arattai app design looks now. We offer a tab e2ee (for end to end encrypted) and any user can set that as the default for all personal chats. We will have end to end for group chats (up to some group size limit) later. Now your feedback needed on:(Option 1) Any user can make e2ee default for all their one to one chats or pick a particular chat to be in e2ee mode. The app will go to e2ee even if one of the parties has set e2ee as their only mode and the other user has not set e2ee as their only mode.(Option 2) We are also thinking of Arattai system wide default of e2ee for all one-to-one chats. This means that e2ee mode is the only option available for one to one chats. Group chats in e2ee mode will arrive later. Some people do like the option of cloud based chat for some of their chats (device storage limits don't matter) so we have been thinking of option 1 but we could easily adopt option 2 (option 2 is cheaper for us!).
