Zomato delivery man killed by speeding truck on SPR in Gurgaon

GURGAON: A 20-year-old food delivery man working with Zomato was tragically killed in a horrific road accident after being crushed under a rashly driven truck near Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) in Gurgaon around 12:10 am on Saturday.The victim, identified as Vikas, hailed from Uttar Pradesh and was working in Gurgaon to support his family. According to police officials from the Badshahpur police station, the incident occurred when Vikas was on his way to deliver an order. As he slowed down to take a U-turn near Vatika Chowk, a speeding truck hit his bike from the side.

"The truck was coming from SPR and heading towards Vatika Chowk. While Vikas was attempting a U-turn, the truck collided with his bike, which got stuck in the front right tyre of the vehicle.

He was crushed on the spot," a police official confirmed.Eyewitness Sudhir Sharma, who was at the scene, described the incident as horrifying. "The truck literally crushed the biker. It was a horrific scene. Many Zomato riders gathered around and tried to help him, but he already died. His head was crushed," he said.The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the heavily loaded vehicle at the spot. Police have since impounded the truck and initiated a manhunt for the absconding driver.

Vikas’s body was taken to the mortuary around 2 am, and his family was informed soon after. A case was registered against the unidentified driver under relevant sections for rash driving and causing death due to negligence at the Badshahpur police station.The incident has sparked outrage among fellow delivery executives and raised renewed concerns about road safety and the vulnerability of two-wheeler riders on Gurgaon’s busy roads.
