The Kerala government has accorded administrative sanction of ₹10 crore for acquiring land for the construction of a railway overbridge (ROB) at Kadalundi.
Officials said the funds had been allotted to the Public Works Department (PWD) Bridges Wing. Approximately 0.9037 hectares of land will be acquired for the project.
The construction of the ROB has been a decades-long demand of local residents as a permanent solution to traffic problems in Kadalundi. On the Kadalundi-Chaliyam road, the railway line cuts across the road through the middle of Kadalundi Angadi (town centre). The overbridge is expected to resolve the traffic congestion caused by the railway gate at the location.
The project will also ease travel for people from Farook, Mannur, Kadalundi and Chaliyam, while also facilitating smoother long-distance movement along the coastal road.
Public Works Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas said that with the administrative sanction of ₹10 crore for land acquisition for the Kadalundi overbridge, the long-standing demand of the people was set to become a reality.
“Once the overbridge is completed, it will provide a permanent solution to the long-standing traffic congestion in Kadalundi Angadi. It will also significantly aid long-distance travel along the coastal corridor,” Mr. Riyas said.
The Minister added that directions had been issued to expedite land acquisition procedures so that construction of the overbridge could begin soon.
