11 Suspected Illegal Bangladeshis Detained In Mangaluru As Police Intensify Crackdown

The total number of suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants detained in Mangaluru has risen to 19.

Mangaluru Police have intensified their crackdown on suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants, detaining 11 more people from two locations under the Urva Police Station limits on Sunday. The detainees were allegedly working at construction sites in the city.

With the latest operation, the total number of suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants detained in Mangaluru has risen to 19. On Friday, police had picked up eight suspected migrants from Mukka during a similar drive.

Police have also booked a labour contractor from West Bengal for allegedly facilitating employment for the Bangladeshi nationals in Mangaluru. According to investigators, the contractor is suspected to have deployed the migrants alongside Indian workers at construction sites.

Officials said the identities and documents of those detained are being verified to establish their nationality and immigration status. Police are also probing the network that allegedly brought the migrants to Mangaluru and arranged employment for them.

The crackdown comes as authorities continue to step up action against illegal immigration and those accused of aiding the movement and employment of undocumented foreign nationals in the coastal district. Further investigation is underway.
