13 arrested in cybercrime crackdown

The cyber crime wing of the Cyberabad police arrested 13 people for six online fraud cases from August 12 to 18. The arrests were made in multiple states, underlining the nationwide spread of cybercrime operations.

According to officials, nine of the arrested persons were involved in trading frauds, while four were linked to part-time job scams. The accused were allegedly part of organised gangs and have been remanded to judicial custody. Police also seized seven mobile phones.

The police further secured 134 refund orders in 37 cases from court, enabling the return of over ₹53.47 lakh to victims of online fraud.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant against investment and trading scams promising high returns. They advised the public to verify the authenticity of financial transactions and to be cautious of fraudulent requests for personal information such as Aadhaar details, bank account numbers or one-time passwords.

Citizens have also been warned against clicking suspicious links received through messaging platforms or emails, and are encouraged to immediately report cyber frauds by dialling 1930 or visiting the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal at www.cybercrime.gov.in.
