13 Bangladeshi nationals detained in Gurgaon; deportation process underway

Police verified the identities and citizenship status of several individuals and identified 13 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing in Gurgaon without valid documents.

GURGAON: Police have detained 13 Bangladeshi nationals found residing illegally in the city during a special verification drive launched to identify foreign nationals living without valid documents.

They will now be deported back to their country, police said.The action was taken by the Crime Branch unit of Sector 39 under the supervision of deputy commissioner of police (Crime) Hitesh Yadav. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams carried out checks at construction sites and slum settlements where suspected Bangladeshi nationals were believed to be staying.During the operation, police verified the identities and citizenship status of several individuals and identified 13 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing in Gurgaon without valid documents.

Authorities also recovered documents linked to their Bangladeshi citizenship.Police said the detained individuals disclosed during questioning that they had entered India illegally through the Kaliaganj border with the help of agents and had been living here while working as labourers. Officials said the deportation process has been initiated and the individuals will be sent back to Bangladesh after completion of the required legal formalities.

The operation is part of a larger campaign being conducted across the city to verify the identities and documents of people residing in slum settlements, rented accommodations, industrial areas, colonies and hotels. Police said intensive verification and checking drives are underway at multiple locations.“We appeal to residents to inform authorities about any suspicious individual or foreign national residing illegally in their neighbourhood.

Citizens should also ensure police verification of tenants, domestic helpers, employees and workers engaged in hotels and commercial establishments”, Sandeep Turan, police spokesman said.Officials said RWAs and residents should cooperate with the ongoing campaign, which is being conducted with national security and public safety as key priorities.Police also clarified that Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing legally in the country need not be concerned and that no innocent person would be harassed during the drive.Authorities warned that strict action would be taken against those spreading false or misleading information regarding the campaign.
