13 Nagapattinam fishermen assaulted mid-sea; one suspected Sri Lankan fisherman nabbed

In separate incidents, 13 fishermen of Nagapattinam district were assaulted mid-sea, allegedly by Sri Lankan Tamil fishermen, on Sunday night and robbed of their belongings, including GPS gadgets and mobile phones, and their catch.

One of the suspected Sri Lankan Tamils — identified as Ayanthan, 27, of Kankesanthurai — was captured by some Nagapattinam fishermen and brought ashore on Monday morning. He was handed over to the Department of Fisheries.
