14 injured in stray dog attack in Kannur

Fourteen persons, including women and the elderly, were injured in a stray dog attack at Punnakkulangara near Puthapara in Bakkalam on Sunday (May 24, 2026) afternoon. The dog, which triggered panic in the locality, was later found dead in the area.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. when the stray dog reportedly chased and bit people standing in house courtyards and alighting from vehicles, including autorickshaws. Many sustained bite injuries to their hands and legs. All the injured sought treatment at Government Medical College Hospital, Kannur.

The injured were identified as K. Rohini, 60, Riju Aanayodan, 40, Yeshoda Tharol, 78, Sureshan Rayaroth, 59, Mohanan Rayaroth, 65, Manja Kamla, 68, K. Thankamani, 65, Jishnu Vellikkil, 29, Sajith Thondiyil, 46, T. Lijesh, 34, Ajitha, 56, Seena, 40, Rajika K., 58, and Kamala Raghuthaman, 50.

The stray dog was later found dead at Punnakkulangara around 4 p.m.
