15 sheep die near Salem

SALEM: Fifteen sheep were found dead under mysterious circumstances on a farm near Gangavalli in Salem district on Monday night.The sheep belonged to S Thirunavukkarasu, 38, of Lakshmipuram in Sivagangai district.

He was raising sheep and goats in Anayampatty near Gangavalli.On Monday evening, he secured the sheep in a pen on a farm belonging to A Gunaraj. He returned to the spot at 7pm to discover that all the 15 sheep in the pen had died. "I have no idea what caused their deaths," he said.Revenue officials and police reached the spot on Tuesday and began investigations. Veterinarians performed postmortems on the carcasses. The reason for the deaths will be known only after the postmortem reports come.
