16 kg of ganja seized near Namakkal; six arrested

NAMAKKAL: The Pallipalayam police in Namakkal district on Thursday seized 16 kg of ganja, worth around Rs 2 lakh, being smuggled from Bihar and arrested six men. Acting on a tip-off, police checked govt and private buses on the Trichy-Erode National Highway in the early hours of Thursday.

They found two men from Bihar carrying ganja on a private bus.The duo, identified as Motilal Shakani, 31, and Vishal Kumar, 26, of Bihar, were smuggling ganja after being contacted by buyers in Tamil Nadu. The duo are farmers.Based on information gathered from them, police arrested four more men, identified as Ramesh, 38, of Dharmapuri district, Harish, 22, of Konnaiyar near Tiruchengode, Ramesh, 30, of Mettur and Karthi, 36, of Salem.All of them were remanded in judicial custody.
