The Odisha Police on Tuesday arrested the key accused in the gangrape of an 18-year-old girl in Jagatsinghpur district, police sources said, adding that the hunt is on for another accused.
Officers said that as per their investigation, the accused persons allegedly intercepted the victim while she was heading to her friend’s place for a birthday celebration and sexually assaulted her at an isolated location, around 400 metres from her house. She then managed to get back home, after which she was rushed to the hospital, police said.
She is currently undergoing treatment, and her condition is said to be stable, a family member said.
Based on her father’s complaint, a gangrape case has been registered.

“While one team succeeded in capturing the key accused, other teams are conducting raids in nearby districts. The accused will be produced before the court following his medical examination. Efforts are on to apprehend the other accused,” said the SP.
Police said a scientific team has searched the crime scene and that further investigation is being conducted in the case.
