183 kg of gutkha products seized, one held in Cuddalore

The police seized 183 kg of gutkha and other banned tobacco products, being smuggled in a car, and arrested one person at the Alpettai check-post in Cuddalore district on Monday night.

Following a tip-off on the movement of the contraband, a police team intercepted the car near the check-post. On searching the vehicle, the team found 183 kg of gutkha and other tobacco products.

The car driver, N. Saravanan, 38, of Kuruvinatham, was arrested and remanded in custody.
