19 held over violence after road crash in Agra
Agra: Nineteen people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the violence that erupted following a road crash in Agra’s Fatehabad area on Monday. Three people were critically injured in the incident, and one of them, Manoj Kumar, later succumbed to his injuries.Following Kumar’s death, his family members and local residents staged a protest by placing the body on the road and blocking traffic on the busy route. Protests turned violent as some people allegedly vandalised public property and clashed with police personnel. More than six policemen, including Fatehabad police station’s Inspector (crime), Purrostam Pal, was injured.Police teams tried to persuade the protesters to clear the road for traffic movement.
But, officials said some anti-social elements exploited the situation and engaged in disruptive activities.An FIR was registered at Fatehabad against 35 named individuals and over 350 unidentified persons under relevant sections of the BNS, including unlawful assembly, rioting, attempt to murder, and voluntarily causing hurt.Fatehabad ACP Imran Ahmed said, “Nineteen accused have been arrested so far, and efforts are underway to identify others involved through CCTV footage.”
