19-yr-old sentenced for 20-years for sexual assault of child

Karur: A mahila court in Karur has sentenced a 19-year-old youth to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl child in March.The convict, Vignesh, of Panchamadevi in Karur district, was found guilty in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Karur all women police station on March 5.

Following the investigation, he was remanded in judicial custody, and the case was taken up for trial before the mahila court.Delivering the verdict on Friday, judge Thangavel sentenced Vignesh to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine. The court directed that all the sentences awarded in the case would run concurrently. Police escorted Vignesh under transit custody to the central prison in Trichy, where he was lodged.
