Two villagers in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district were allegedly murdered by unidentified Maoists late Sunday night. According to initial reports, 4–5 unidentified assailants attacked the victims with sharp-edged weapons.
The victims have been identified as Kawasi Joga, approximately 55 years old and a resident of Chhutwai village, and Manglu Kursam, around 50 years old, from Bada Tarrem. Tarrem police are currently verifying the incident.
This comes just a day after a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in a pressure IED explosion, allegedly planted by Maoists, in Kondapadgu village of Bijapur district, as reported byth enews agency ANI.
The blast occurred around 5:00 pm on Saturday while the teenager, Krishna Gota, son of Fakir and a resident of Kondapadgu, was grazing cattle in a nearby forest.
The explosion left him with severe injuries to his leg and face. He was rushed to the district hospital in Bijapur, where he is undergoing treatment.
Condemning the incident, the Bijapur Police called it a “cowardly act,” saying to ANI, “Even innocent children are no longer safe from Maoist IEDs. In their attempt to spread fear and violence, Maoists have begun targeting children too.”
The police have urged local residents to remain highly cautious in forested regions. “We urge residents to exercise utmost vigilance in jungle areas and immediately inform the nearest police station or security camp about anything unusual,” the police added.
