An FIR was lodged against two party workers - one from the BJP and another from Sharad Pawar-led NCP after supporters of both parties clashed with each other on the Maharashtra Assembly premises. Nitin Deshmukh of the NCP (SP) and Hrishikesh from the BJP are in police custody and will be presented in court today.

A violent brawl broke out on Thursday in the Assembly lobby between supporters of BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar and Sharad Pawar's group, NCP's MLA Jitendra Awhad.

Following the clash, Gopichand Padalkar, the BJP MLA from Jat, issued an apology.

"I am really saddened by what occurred here. This is an unfortunate incident. As a member of the legislative house, I express my regret and apologise to the Speaker of the Assembly and Chairperson of the Legislative Council," Padalkar told reporters.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also condemned the incident, telling reporters that the incident was "absolutely inappropriate".

"Such fights should not happen in Vidhan Bhavan. I have urged them to conduct a proper investigation," he added.

The incident prompted trolling on the internet with many contributing, including comedian Kunal Kamra. The comedian stitched various video clips together to the score of a rendition of Hum Honge Kamyaab.
