Subsequent testing of the material tested positive for marijuana (cannabis), commonly known as ganja
Ahmedabad: A passenger from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport was arrested with 20.36kg of marijuana on Thursday.According to a release by the Customs department, based on specific intelligence from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and passenger profiling, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at SVPI Airport intercepted a passenger from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh arriving from Bangkok on Thursday.“During examination of the passenger’s baggage, 19 vacuum-sealed packets containing green, dried, plant-like substance were found concealed inside the trolley bag. Subsequent testing of the material tested positive for marijuana (cannabis), commonly known as ganja. A total of 20.36kg of the contraband substance was recovered and seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act,” according to the release. The release added that the passenger was also arrested under the provisions of the Act.Further probe will be taken up by the DRI, it added.Recently, two major seizures, including one for heroin, were made in the past week. Sources said that in each case, passenger profiling along with investigation for the sender and receiver was carried out.
