Three members of a family were arrested by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) team on Wednesday while attempting to smuggle 21.013 kg of ganja. A family of three, who had allegedly brought ganja from Tamil Nadu to Kerala, using their three children as cover, was apprehended by the City DANSAF team during a search operation. The accused were caught from near the Nellivila temple at Venganoor under the Vizhinjam police station limits.
The arrested were identified as Karlos, 38, son of Anandan, Pound Kadavu, South Thumba, Attipra; his wife Bindu, 32; and his mother-in-law Damayanthi, 60. The ganja was recovered from a trolley bag kept in the boot of the car in which they were travelling. Karlos was previously booked by the Excise department officials for attempting to smuggle ganja in large quantities. Similarly, Bindu had earlier been arrested by the DANSAF team and handed over to the Valiathura police for attempting to smuggle around 4 kg of ganja.
