25-Year-Old Woman Offered Lift, Raped In Moving Car In Uttarakhand; Two Arrested

Two men have been arrested for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman inside a moving car in the Transit Camp area of Rudrapur, police said. According to the survivor’s complaint, the incident occurred on the morning of January 25 (Sunday) when she was walking from her home to her workplace in Pantnagar. Two men offered her a lift, claiming they would drop her at her destination.

However, instead of taking her to work, the accused allegedly drove around the area. One of them then moved to the back seat and raped her inside the moving vehicle, police officials said. The woman was later abandoned at a deserted location.

An FIR was registered under sections 70(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Based on the survivor’s statement and evidence collected during the investigation, police arrested the first accused, a 34-year-old man, from his residence. The car used in the alleged crime was also recovered.

A district forensic team examined the vehicle and collected evidence, including the survivor’s hair samples. The second accused, aged 36, was arrested later the same day.

The arrests were carried out by joint teams of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and city police.

The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault.
