KARIMNAGAR
Elaborate arrangements have been made for the urban local body elections in the combined Karimnagar district on Wednesday (February 11) with the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) hogging the limelight due to an all-stakes electoral battle.
The ruling Congress, the BJP, the BRS, the AIMIM and other parties have put all their stakes on Wednesday’s election to the KMC, the key civic body in the political nerve centre of north Telangana.
As many as 398 candidates are in the fray from 66 divisions in the KMC. Independent candidates constitute a major chunk of the contestants. A total of 3,40,580 voters will elect the 66 corporators from among the contesting candidates.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Civic infrastructure development and improvement of civic amenities among other issues including allegations of corruption in Smart City Project works in KMC dominated the high-decibel electioneering. The Congress and the BJP left no stone unturned during the election campaign as part of efforts to wrest the KMC from the BRS.
The BRS, which ruled the KMC for two consecutive terms, too spearheaded an extensive electioneering to retain the key civic body.
