Three Children Die After Falling into Water Pit While Visiting Ailing Grandmother in Nagarkurnool
Three children died after accidentally falling into a water-filled pit while playing near agricultural fields in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district.
The tragic incident occurred in Mucherla Palli village of Urukonda mandal. The victims had come to the village to visit their grandmother, who was unwell.
Srikant Reddy, a resident of Turkayamjal in Hyderabad and a native of Mucherla Palli, had returned to his village with his family on Saturday after learning about his mother’s illness. On Sunday afternoon, taking advantage of the holiday, he visited his agricultural fields along with his children. His sister’s family also accompanied them.
While the elders were inspecting the fields and engaged in conversation, the children were playing nearby with a ball. During the game, the ball fell into a water pit dug for agricultural purposes. When the children went near the pit to retrieve it, they slipped and fell into the water.
Four children, Srimanya Reddy, Srikruthi (12), Sneha (15), and Vidyadharini Reddy, were involved in the incident. Hearing their cries, family members rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue them. Vidyadharini Reddy was pulled out safely, but the other three children drowned and died on the spot.
Among the deceased were two children of Srikant Reddy and his niece, the daughter of his sister. The incident triggered scenes of intense grief, with relatives breaking down at the site.
Based on a complaint filed by family members, police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
