3 die, 12 injured as Tazia touches high tension line during Muharram procession

INDORE: Three people died and several others sustained burn injuries after a Tazia reportedly came in contact with a high-tension power line during a Muharram procession in Hatnara village under Piploda in Ratlam district late night on Friday.According to initial information, the incident occurred while the Tazia was being taken through the village. It is suspected that the structure touched an overhead high-tension electricity line, causing a powerful electric shock. Panic gripped the area as several people collapsed after being electrocuted, while others suffered burn injuries.

Local residents rushed the injured to nearby hospitals as police and administrative officials reached the spot.

The exact number of casualties and injuries is yet to be officially confirmed."Three people were killed in the incident, while 12 others suffered severe burn injuries. Every year, the procession passes from the same route. The Tazia is lowered before passing under the high-tension power line and raised again after crossing it. This year, however, it was mistakenly raised before clearing the line, and a metal part of the Tazia touched the high-tension wire," said Nimish Agarwal, DIG. DIG Agarwal said that they were assessing the situation.

"Ten people have been rushed to the hospital," he said. Authorities are assessing the situation. Further details are awaited.
