3 killed, 1 injured in chain-reaction crash on Vijayawada bypass

Vijayawada: A devastating chain-reaction road accident on the new Vijayawada bypass near BB Gudem claimed three lives, including a 3-year-old child, and left another person seriously injured on Tuesday.According to police, a container truck travelling from Vijayawada towards Eluru reportedly suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The speeding vehicle rammed into a car and an oil tanker moving ahead. The impact forced the oil tanker to crash into a motorcycle, triggering a horrific multi-vehicle collision.Two occupants of the car and the motorcyclist died on the spot. The deceased in the car were identified as Jaya Mangala Nagadurga, 28, and her 3-year-old son, Karunya Nagasai, both residents of Penchikalamarri village in Kaikaluru mandal.

Nagadurga’s husband, Vijay Kumar, sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment.The biker who lost his life was identified as Dasari Venkateswara Rao, 50, a resident of Singanagar. The impact of the collision completely mangled the car, highlighting the severity of the crash. Gannavaram police rushed to the scene, cleared the damaged vehicles to prevent a major traffic gridlock on the national highway, and shifted the bodies to the government hospital in Gannavaram for post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal accident. Preliminary findings indicate that the tyre burst on the container truck triggered the tragic chain of events, though officials are examining all possible factors.
