3 killed, 8 injured in a road accident near Tirupati

TIRUPATI: Three persons were killed and eight others sustained injuries in a road accident reported near the Gadanki forest check-post in Pakala mandal at Tirupati district on Wednesday.According to the Pakala police, a group of relatives from Perumalla Palli in Yadamarri mandal were heading to Tirupati in an autorickshaw to attend a marriage. Just as they were crossing the Gadanki forest check-post, a timber laden truck moving in front of the autorickshaw suddenly stopped without any warning.The speeding autorickshaw driver couldn’t control the vehicle and rammed into the truck from behind at high speed.

The impact of the accident was so severe that two occupants identified as Yanamala Madhavu and her daughter Meghana (15), residents of Enugunta Palli in Tavanampalli mandal.While nine others who sustained injuries were rushed to the SVRR government general hospital in Tirupati, 25-year-old Pulikinti Rajasekhar succumbed to injuries. The remaining eight others are undergoing treatment at the hospital.Grieving relatives of the victims have strongly blamed the sheer negligence of the lorry driver for the fatal crash, pointing to the un-signaled, sudden halt.Pakala police have confirmed that a formal case is being registered based on their complaint, and a thorough investigation into the incident is currently underway.
