3 women warkaris killed, 4 injured as truck in palkhi procession mows them down near Pune

PUNE: Three women warkaris were killed and four others injured after a truck accompanying the palkhi procession ran them over near the Belsar toll plaza on the Saswad-Jejuri road, around 55km from Pune, on Monday morning.The deceased were identified as Nanda Pawar (60), Madhavi Rajaram Salgare (55) and Rajshri Shankar Bhosale (55), all from Sangli district. The injured women are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.According to Pune Rural Police, a truck belonging to a dindi from Nanded district was travelling towards Jejuri on the vehicle lane when it allegedly swerved left while trying to overtake another vehicle, mowing down seven women pilgrims from a Sangli-based dindi walking on the same carriageway.Police said a case is being registered against the truck driver.
