3 year old girl killed by negligently driven car in northwest Delhi

NEW DELHI: A three-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a negligently driven Creta car in Northwest Delhi's Bawana on Friday. The girl went to a factory where her mother was working and was playing outside when the accident occurred.

No arrests have been made. The deceased lived with her family in Pooth Khurd. The 25-year-old deceased's mother told the police that the accident took place around 3 pm outside a factory in DSIIDC-sector 3, Bawana, where she is employed. She brought her daughter to the factory as she does every day. While the mother was working, the minor was playing near the roadside just outside the premises. She recounted that while she stepped out to feed her daughter, a white Creta car bearing a registration number of Delhi approached at high speed.

The driver, reportedly driving recklessly and carelessly, suddenly swerved and hit the child before fleeing the scene.A crowd gathered quickly at the site, and she was immediately rushed to a hospital in Pooth Khurd by her mother and others present. Unfortunately, doctors declared her “brought dead” upon arrival. Police said the medical report confirmed the cause as injuries sustained in a road traffic accident.

The crime team was called to inspect the scene, and photographs were taken for evidence. The site was secured by PSI Amit while the investigating officer proceeded to the hospital.Based on the victim’s mother’s statement, site inspection, and medical reports, a case under Sections 281 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 106(1) (Causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered.

Multiple teams have been formed to crack the case, and they are also scanning CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events. This is not the first time children have fallen victim to reckless driving. In March, a two-year-old girl was killed after being run over by a car allegedly driven by a 15-year-old boy in Delhi’s Paharganj area. The tragic incident occurred in the evening while the child was playing outside her home in Ram Nagar. In December last year, a car driven by a 17-year-old boy struck and injured multiple people, including a 7-year-old boy, in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar.
