Based on Delhi Police’s recommendation and her repeated involvement in narcotics trafficking, the detaining authority issued an order directing that she be lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail, Telangana.Police said Ujma, a resident of Uttam Nagar and Raghubir Nagar, has been actively involved in drug trafficking since 2020 and is considered a habitual offender under the NDPS Act. Though she was out on bail, she had absconded after learning about the PITNDPS proceedings against her.

Her husband was already involved in the retail sale of illegal ganja in Uttam Nagar, after which she joined him in the trade. The PITNDPS Act provides for the preventive detention of individuals involved in illicit drug trafficking and serves as an additional legal mechanism alongside ordinary criminal law to curb organised narcotics networks. The Act primarily targets key players in the drug trade, including organisers and financiers, kingpins operating behind the scenes, habitual and organised traffickers, licensed cultivators misappropriating opium and those illegally cultivating cannabis or opium.
